Sedation or General Anaesthesia — What's the Difference?

Sedation

Feel calmer, more relaxed and less focused on the treatment.

Sedation is suitable for patients who need additional relaxation and comfort but may not require general anaesthesia.

General Anaesthesia

You sleep throughout the procedure and wake up when it's over.

This option may be suitable for more extensive treatment or patients with severe dental anxiety, subject to medical assessment.

First, a Medical Assessment. Then, the Right Treatment Option.

What Treatments Can Be Performed Under Sedation or General Anaesthesia?

Dental Implant Placement

From replacing individual missing teeth to more extensive implant-supported restorations.

Tooth
Restoration

Restorative and prosthetic treatment in greater comfort.

More Extensive Dental Treatment

Several stages of treatment may be carried out during a single visit, where clinically appropriate.

Oral Surgery

Procedures that may benefit from additional comfort and a carefully managed treatment process.

    30 minutes

  • General anaesthesia PLN 1,700

    First hour

  • Additional general anaesthesia time PLN 600

The cost of the dental procedures themselves is charged separately, according to your individual treatment plan.

What You Should Know Before Treatment Under Sedation or General Anaesthesia

What's the difference between sedation and general anaesthesia?

Sedation helps you relax and feel calmer during treatment. General anaesthesia, on the other hand, places you in a controlled state of unconsciousness for the duration of the procedure.
We recommend the appropriate method following a consultation and medical assessment.

Treatment is carried out under the care of a qualified medical team and an anaesthetist.
Before the procedure, we conduct a thorough assessment and review your medical history and general health to determine whether general anaesthesia is appropriate for you.

These options may be particularly helpful for people who:

  • Experience severe dental anxiety.
  • Have dental phobia.
  • Require extensive dental treatment.
  • Find it difficult to tolerate lengthy appointments.

The aim of sedation and general anaesthesia is to make treatment as comfortable as possible. The level of awareness and sensation depends on the method used and the procedure being performed. Your dentist will explain what to expect before treatment.

You will first have a consultation and medical history review.
Depending on the procedure and your health, additional tests or an anaesthetic consultation may be required.

Recovery time depends on the type of anaesthesia and the extent of the treatment.
You’ll be monitored after the procedure and given individual aftercare instructions.

After general anaesthesia, you must have someone accompany you home and help you return safely.

Depending on your individual circumstances, treatment may include:

  • Dental implant procedures.
  • Tooth extractions.
  • Comprehensive dental treatment.
  • Smile reconstruction.

The appropriate scope of treatment is determined individually.

No. Not every patient is suitable for general anaesthesia.
Your safety is our priority, so the decision is made after reviewing your health and completing a medical assessment.

The first step is a consultation, during which we will:

  • Discuss your needs and concerns.
  • Assess the extent of treatment required.
  • Determine the appropriate sedation or anaesthesia option.
  • Present your treatment plan and cost estimate.

If you have any other questions, we’ll be happy to discuss them during your consultation.
